Apple has Released iPhone OS 2.1 Beta 3

Check your email, iPhone developers. Apple has released iPhone OS 2.1 beta 3. The description of changes is typically cryptic:

“iPhone OS 2.1 beta 3 is now available and is to be used for testing only. View the Pre-Installation Advisory for iPhone OS 2.1 beta 3, Readme, and Release Notes before installing the new versions of the iPhone OS and SDK. As a reminder, pre-release software is Confidential Information and is subject to the terms outlined in your Registered iPhone Developer Terms and Conditions with Apple.”

Camino has just been Updated to Version 1.6.3

Camino, the best Gecko-based browser NOT named Firefox 3, has just been updated to version 1.6.3. This update, which seems to have rolled in 1.6.2 along with it (at least I never got the 1.6.2 notification, and I use Camino pretty frequently), sports the latest update to the Gecko 1.8.1 branch, including several critical stability and security fixes with better ad-blocking. Plus, it no longer crashes if a pop-up is displayed while dragging a bookmark.

When you first launch the application you are presented with a “This Month” budget screen where you can set your monthly budget, see how much you’ve spent, see top expenses, and get some statistics.

ColorWare: Gadget Coloring Service for the iPhone 3G

If black and white aren’t enough for you, ColorWare is now offering their gadget coloring service for the iPhone 3G. Their iPhone site allows you to customize parts of your phone with 35 different colors on an à la carte basis. Obviously you have to send in your iPhone and the service takes about two weeks.

Freeway 5.2: Build Web Pages for Your iPhone and iPod Touch

Softpress Systems has released Freeway 5.2, which includes new tools for building web pages for iPhone and iPod touch. Freeway is WYSIWYG website creation software that features a traditional, page-layout approach and omits the need to write any code (unless, you know, you really want to handcraft your HTML).

Apple Extended the US Monopoly on the iPhone at least Until 2010

USA Today has an interview with AT&T head Randall Stephenson in which he discusses the success of the iPhone for the wireless carrier. He notes that in the original deal back on 2005 they were “betting on Jobs” — and it’s now clear that that bet paid off: “It’s everything we hoped it would be,” according to Stephenson.

iPhone 3G Charge Converter for Your iPhone

Ridax, a company that sells various iPod Dock Connector accessories, has begun taking pre-orders for its iPhone 3G Charge Converter. The small accessory, the design of which is still being finished, will allow iPhone 3G owners to use older iPod and iPhone charging accessories that are currently incompatible with the 3G to charge the device by converting the power stream to suit the iPhone 3G.

Security Update 2008-005

Security Update 2008-005Apple has just released a new security update for client and server users of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger (Intel and PPC), Mac OS X 10.4 Server (Intel ve PPC) and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. This Security update 2008-005 is “recommended for all users and improves the security of Mac OS X,” and includes fixes for a dozen or so features in Mac OS X.
